Tuesday marks the 73rd anniversary of Germany’s infamous Wannsee Conference. January 20, 1942, signaled a turning point from the mass murder of Jews to a systematic genocide of European Jews in the gas chambers of Auschwitz and other death camps. On this day, a group of Germany's political elite met at the Villa Minous, the Nazi SS guest house on the Greater Wannsee lake located in a Berlin suburb, to decide on "the Final Solution to the Jewish question."

Tomorrow is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, and even now Holocaust survivors and heads of state are gathering in Poland to remember this important day. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the infamous concentration and extermination camp where more than a million Jews, Gypsies, Soviets and Poles were murdered. In fact, in 2010, the Federal Security Service of Russia declassified information that revealed more than four million inmates were killed here. (CNN)

Here in Israel and around the world, the Jewish People face the memory and pain of the Holocaust and say, “Never again.” And for many of us here at the ministry, it is very personal as we lost grandparents, aunts and uncles, who were gassed and then put in the ovens in Auschwitz. 50 Holocaust Survivors Celebrate Their Bar Mitzvahs
A Jewish teen holds a Torah scroll covered by an ornately decorated Torah mantle that commemorates those who perished in Nazi death camps during the Holocaust.

During the Holocaust, many Jewish children were deprived of a normal, happy childhood and celebrating their coming of age ceremonies — their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. this past Monday, 50 Holocaust survivors participated in this Jewish “coming of age” ceremony at the Western Wall. Just two days before Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), Reznik and a dozen other men danced with the Torah scroll at the end of the day’s Torah readings.
