Kerry Warns World That ISIS Is Perilously Close to Israel

After the abduction of United Nations' forces in Syria by rebel forces, the Syrian army and rebel Islamic forces continue to battle along Israel’s Golan border with Syria, placing the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on high alert in the Golan Heights. The IDF also ordered farmers and civilians to vacate the Syria border area amid fierce fighting at the Quneitra crossing. On Friday, United States Secretary of State John Kerry called on the world to unite to defeat ISIS terror. “They have already demonstrated the ability to seize and hold more territory than any other terrorist organization, in a strategic region that borders Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey and is perilously close to Israel,” he wrote in a New York Times piece published Friday.

Gaza Ceasefire Holds as Hamas Declares Jerusalem the Ultimate Goal

At a news conference in Doha Qatar on Thursday, Khaled Meshaal described the latest Gaza conflict as being only “a milestone to reaching our objective.” That objective includes taking Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, Judaism’s holiest site. Another statement after the truce announcement by Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri confirmed Jerusalem was among the long term goals: “The time has come for us to say that the true war is not aimed at opening border crossings. Our true war is aimed at the liberation of Jerusalem.”

Parasha Shoftim (Judges): Exercising Judgment and the Knowledge of Good and Evil

This week’s Torah reading, called Judges (Shoftim in Hebrew), discusses the issue of justice according to a Biblical perspective. God commanded Moses to instruct the people of Israel to appoint shoftim (judges), a word derived from the word shafat, meaning to judge or to govern, and shotrim (officials or official books, and in modern Hebrew, police officers) to rule at the gates of the cities so that justice would prevail. These appointed leaders were expected to judge the people with fairness, equality and wisdom. They were forbidden from perverting justice in any way, such as showing favoritism or taking bribes.

At Risk Israeli Farmers Get Bomb Shelters and 500 Helping Hands

Many of the rockets that are fired from the Strip fall in agricultural fields. Until now, no farmer has been hurt, but the crops and fields have suffered. The government has committed to assisting those farmers who have suffered losses to crops and livestock. The director of Yofi Shel Yerakhot (Beautiful Vegetables) a cooperative of farmers in the Negev, said that their members as well as their workers (many of whom are Thai foreign workers), are committed to working the extra hours needed to assure a steady supply of vegetables to Israeli tables despite the crisis of Hamas bombing. Another group of foreign workers—500 Christian volunteers—will be arriving over the next three months to help farmers in Judea and Samaria. They have come as a part of a trip organized by the American Christian organization HaYovel (the Jubilee).

Hamas Executes Suspected Collaborators with Israel in “Operation Strangling Necks”

In recent days, Hamas operatives have executed at least 25 Gazans suspected of collaborating with Israel in what Hamas calls "Operation Strangling Necks." (JP) On Friday morning, 11 alleged informants were shot at the Gaza City police headquarters. Two of the 11 were women. Later in the day, masked gunmen wearing black openly shot seven alleged in formants, lining them up against a wall with their heads covered with bags. They then sprayed them with automatic rifles fire in front of worshippers emerging from the al-Omari Mosque.

Hamas Hits Israeli Kindergarten and Synagogue

What began with three Gaza rockets on Tuesday hitting Be’er Sheva and Netivot escalated to about 70 by 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. A civilian home was hit Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday morning, a 33-year old man who shielded children with his body was seriously hurt in Eshkol. An empty kindergarten was also struck and several cows were also killed when a rocket kit a cowshed. By Thursday evening, Hamas had unleashed more than 300 rockets. On Friday, four-year-old Daniel Tragerman was killed when a Hamas rocket landed near his home in Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

Israel Foils Hamas Plot to Take Over West Bank

Israel has thwarted a Hamas plot to topple the Palestinian Authority president Mahmoud Abbas, begin the third intifada uprising, and establish a second front against Israel during Operation Protective Edge. Israel’s internal security, the Shin Bet, uncovered the plot during May and June, in the process of arresting over 90 Hamas operatives, confiscating guns and other weapons that included 24 M-16 rifles, six handguns, seven missile launchers, magazines, and ammunition, and seizing more than $170,000 funneled into the West Bank from Jordan to fund the attacks

UN Begins War Crimes Investigation Against Israel

The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has appointed an international commission to investigate Israel’s conduct during Operation Protective Edge. The UN statement said the independent team will probe "all violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law ... in the context of the military operations conducted since June 13, 2014." The commission is to be headed by William Schabas, a Canadian professor of international law known for his bias against Israel’s leaders, especially Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and blindness toward Hamas.
