Parasha Mishpatim (Laws): Once We Were Slaves

February 13, 2015 Since the Israelites had just been released from slavery, the first of God’s mishpatim deal with servants and slaves. “When you acquire a Jewish bondsman, for six years he shall work and in the seventh year he shall go free...” (Exodus 21:2) Several verses later, the painful experiences of the Israelites in Egypt are highlighted again, this time to create empathy for the foreigner. God commands the Israelites that foreigners be treated with kindness and respect.

The device uses a micro-sized smell-sensitive sensor installed as an add-on on smart phones that combined with uniquely designed software is able to actually “smell” cancer and other serious diseases on a user’s breath.

Rome’s Jewish Leader Arrested at Auschwitz

February 1, 2015 On Tuesday, which was International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Riccardo Pacifici, the head of Rome’s Jewish community, and Fabio Perugia, Rome's Jewish community spokesman, along with Italian journalist David Parenzo and a film crew were arrested by Polish police after trying to escape through a window at Auschwitz. Pacifici, whose grandparents died in the camp, had been filming the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the death camp with a Canale 5 film crew for the Italian TV show Matrix.

Israeli President Diagnoses Cause and Cure of Genocide for UN General Assembly

He reminded the body that the UN was established on the ruins of World War II and that the call “Never again,” was “the very essence of this United Nations Organization; it is its mission; it is the primary and principal rationale for its existence.”
