Acharon Shel Pesach: A Feast for the Messiah

In Chasidic Judaism in the Diaspora (outside Israel), a final feast will begin tomorrow before sunset and continue until after nightfall. This final festival meal on the seventh day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread (eighth day of Passover) is called Seudat Moshiach (Feast of Messiah). It was initiated by the founder of the Chasidic movement, Rabbi Yisrael (Israel) ben Eliezer, also called Baal Shem Tov or Besht, a Jewish mystic (ca. 1700–1760). The traditional Feast of Messiah, held in anticipation of the future redemption by the Messiah, includes songs, matzah (unleavened bread), and the four cups of wine typical of the Passover Seder.

Recently, there has been a surge of interest in heavenly signs relating to end-time Bible prophecy, partly due to John Hagee’s book, Four Blood Moons: Something Is About to Change. "A blood moon is when the Earth comes between the sun and the moon," Hagee writes. "And the sun is shining through the atmosphere of the Earth and casts up on the moon a red shadow. And so the moon appears to be red." Hagee connects key events in Jewish history to several sets of four lunar eclipses (scientifically called tetrads) that have occurred around Jewish holy days and significant events in Israel’s history.

The Tabernacle, where God dwelt among the Israelites, would be portable so that it, along with the Divine Presence, could move from place to place during the Israelites' wilderness wanderings. Why does a non-earthly, omnipresent God require a specific, physical earthly space to dwell in? Even God Himself said, “Heaven is My Throne, and the earth is My footstool. Where could you build a house for Me? What place could possibly serve as My abode?” (Isaiah 66:1)

Fast of Tammuz: Is the Temple Mount Holy?

Tzom Tammuz (Fast of Tammuz / 17th of Tammuz) memorializes the breaching of Jerusalem's walls by Nebuchadnezzar after a long siege that brought starvation to those inside Jerusalem’s walls. On this day, the priests in the First Temple stopped offering the Tamid (Perpetual Offering) because the walls were breached, and they had run out of lambs for the offerings. Within weeks, the First Temple was destroyed and all the houses burned. The majority of the Jewish people were taken captive.

Tu B’Shvat and the Spiritual Restoration of the Holy Land

Monday was a special holiday called Tu B’Shvat, also known as the New Year for the Trees. Here in the Holy Land, many will be taking part in planting trees since this holiday is Israeli Arbor Day. On Israeli kibbutzim, it is an agricultural holiday. But the holiday has spiritual significance, as well. In synagogues round the world, there will activities and prayers of thanksgiving to the Lord who has given us the Land of Israel and all its goodness. This holiday has special significance for tithing. According to the rabbis, this is the time when the people of Israel offered to God the tithe of the first fruits of their crops.

The Origins of Christmas: Was Yeshua Really Born on December 25th?

Many Christians around the world have already set up their Christmas trees, bought their presents to give family and friends, and depending on which denomination they are a part of, will be celebrating the prophetic fulfillment of the birth of the Jewish Messiah in Bethlehem this Tuesday. Armenian Apostolic and Eastern Orthodox Christians, unlike Protestants, do not celebrate the birth of Yeshua HaMashiach on December 25th, due to differences between the Armenian, Julian and Gregorian calendars.

The Jewish People stand before God, about to enter into the covenant—a solemn oath—with Almighty God. Such a momentous occasion! This covenant promised that God would establish Israel as His own people and that He would be their God. It included everyone standing before God—from the greatest to the least—the heads of tribes, elders, officers, the men and women, the little ones, and the strangers (Deuteronomy 29:10–11)—from that day forward for all time.
