Orthodox Children Heckled and Mobbed on Temple Mount

Recently, a group of Orthodox parents and their children were harassed by Muslim worshipers when they visited Jerusalem’s Temple Mount (where the First and Second Temples once stood) during the visiting hours allotted to non-Muslim visitors, which includes Jews. Although the group consisted of about 30 adults and 20 children, many of them infants, apparently the security forces had advised that the children be allowed inside the compound first, accompanied by four adults. The pursuing mob shouted angrily and heckled the group while the border police prevented the mob from seriously harming them. The intensity of the attack forced the security forces to escort the group off the compound.

Canadian Wins International Bible Quiz in Jerusalem

Yesterday, on Israeli Independence Day, the annual Israeli government-sponsored International Youth Bible Contest was held in Jerusalem. Canadian Eitan Amos, 18, from Toronto, beat out 15 other finalists who answered tough questions posed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a panel of judges. Amos is the first Canadian ever to win the contest. During the awards presentation, Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized the Bible’s importance saying that it is a "compass and map that help us navigate our way in a changing and unchanging reality."

IDF Doctor Rushes to Save Choking Palestinian Child

Recently, when a Palestinian mother noticed her month-old child was choking, she brought the child to the nearest Israel Defense Forces check post near her village of Beitin, which is in the area of the Palestinian Authority capital of Ramallah. An army officer on duty immediately called for the nearest IDF army doctor. “I got a phone call about a baby choking, and so I called up my medical team. My medical team and I were first on the scene,” Second Lieutenant Ben Tzanani said, who arrived within minutes.

Yom HaZikaron and Yom HaAtzmaut: When Our Mourning Turns to Joy

Yom HaZikaron is a solemn day not unlike last week’s Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), which commemorated those who died during the World War II Holocaust—those murdered outright and those who died fighting the Germans in acts of resistance. Although this day was originally dedicated solely to those who have died in battle, in more recent years the day has been expanded to include victims of terrorist attacks and political violence in general. Israel Extracts Drinking Water from Thin Air

The Israeli company Water-Gen has developed a machine called “GENius” that extracts drinking water from the air. The machine’s heat exchanger chills the air and condenses the resulting water vapor. Co-CEO Arye Kohavi said the machine also removes impurities. “The water is passed through an extensive water filtration system which cleans it from possible chemical and microbiological contaminations,” he said. Israeli Pilgrims Permitted to Enter Tunisia

The government of Tunisia decided for the first time to allow tourists from Israel to use their Israeli passports on an annual pilgrimage during the upcoming Lag BaOmer holy day to the Ghriba Synagogue on the island of Djerba. In the past, they required a special document issued by the Tunisian embassy. Since Tunisia does not have diplomatic relations with Israel, the move has drawn opposition from lawmakers who see this as de facto recognition of the Jewish state.
