Temple Institute Launches Campaign for Third Temple Blueprints

Israel to Help European Jews Flee Anti-Semitism

June 27, 2014 In response to the continued rise of anti-Semitism in Europe, Israel is investing NIS 30 million ($17 million) to help European Jewry make Aliyah (immigrate to Israel under the Law of Return) in 2014 and 2015. "In light of increasing anti-Semitic incidents in Europe, there is a real need to encourage aliyah from Europe," Israeli Immigration Absorption Minister Sofa Landver said. Aliyah as a whole has gone up 55 percent, drawing record numbers from the Ukraine and from France—four times as many as last year.

Jews Fleeing Ukraine for Israel

May 12, 2014 In response to escalating violence in the Ukraine, many Ukrainian Jews are now considering moving to Israel. Nineteen arrived last week. One of the arriving immigrants, 23-year-old Daria Gernovski said, “The situation in Ukraine is not good, I don’t see a future there because of the tensions and because of the financial crisis.” (YNet) The changes in government in the Ukraine seem to be leading to a rise in anti-Semitism, which has been reflected in the sentiments of certain extremist elements among those favoring a more politically right leaning society.

Canadian Wins International Bible Quiz in Jerusalem

May 7, 2014 Yesterday, on Israeli Independence Day, the annual Israeli government-sponsored International Youth Bible Contest was held in Jerusalem. Canadian Eitan Amos, 18, from Toronto, beat out 15 other finalists who answered tough questions posed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and a panel of judges. Amos is the first Canadian ever to win the contest. During the awards presentation, Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasized the Bible’s importance saying that it is a "compass and map that help us navigate our way in a changing and unchanging reality."

Israeli Prime Minister Takes a Moment to Bake His Own Passover Matzah

April 9, 2014 In preparation for Passover next Monday, the Israeli Prime Minister visited the Kfar Chabad Matzah Bakery and baked his first "homemade" matzah. Last week, Prime Minister Netanyahu received instructions on how to make kosher-for-Passover matzah, which must be prepared quickly. To keep the dough from rising, it is not allowed to stand longer than 18 minutes.

Love Bombing and Rising European Anti-Semitism

March 19, 2014 Members of Sweden’s Liberal Party youth wing organized a “love bombing,” placing cut-out hearts on the doors of a school in Sweden a day after it was covered with Nazi slogans that included "Jewish swine" and "Disgusting Jews." In response, other youth wrote messages to the school’s Jewish students voicing their support. Included were such positive messages such as “Love overcomes hate” and “Love comes in all shapes and colours.”
