Off-Duty Security Guard Shoots Terrorist in Israeli Supermarket

December 9, 2014

“Deliver me, O Lord, from evil men; preserve me from violent men.”  (Psalm 140:1)

Last week, in a crowded Israeli supermarket, a Palestine teenager attacked and stabbed two people.

The attack took place at 4:15 p.m. at the Rami Levy Supermarket at Mishor Adumim industrial park, which is near the Judea and Samaria community of Ma’ale Adumim, a major suburb of Jerusalem situated about a ten minute drive to the east of the city.

The supermarket serves and employs both Arabs and Jews.

The two victims were both men in their 50s; one sustained wounds to the head and shoulder and the other was attacked in the upper body.  Both are reported to be in good condition.

An off duty security guard who works in the Prime Minister’s Office shot and apprehended the terrorist.

In a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the guard who thwarted the attack saying, “He acted with extraordinary level-headedness, resourcefulness and bravery.  I told him that we are all proud of him. I told him that even when he isn’t at work—he’s at work, and this is our work, to fight terrorism with the same determination, persistence and decisiveness.”  (JPost)

Magen David Adom ambucycle-emergency response-Israel

A first responder unit of Magen David Adom in the old city of Jerusalem. The ambucycle is owned and operated by Hatzolah Israel, a nonprofit volunteer emergency medical responder.

In a surprisingly efficient response time,  volunteer medics on ambucycles arrived within 90 seconds of the attack and treated the wounded.

“As I arrived to the scene I was immediately informed that several customers were injured next to the cashiers,” said one of the medics.  “I entered the store along with other volunteers to give first aid to the casualties.  The two men were injured on their upper body and were fully conscious.  It is a miracle that there were no more injuries.”  (BIN)

The scene of the stabbing and of the guard chasing down the 16-year-old attacker was recorded by security cameras.

The video shows the youth attacking two men who are standing by their shopping carts.  One falls to the floor as the second chases after the fleeing attacker.  The off-duty security guard pursues the youth.  Removing a gun from his bag, he shoots the fleeing suspect in the leg.

Other shoppers pinned the youth to the floor.  Two other Palestinians were arrested at the scene.  They are suspected of having brought the attacker to the supermarket.  (JPost)
