ReWalk Takes Leap Forward with FDA Approval

Israeli Embassy in Cameroon Helps Vaccinate 10,000 Refugee Children

July 4, 2014 Using funds that were originally set aside for an Israeli Independence Day reception, the Israeli Embassy in Cameroon established a five-day vaccination program from June 8 to 12 that treated over 10,000 refugee children. During the clinic, 5,000 were vaccinated against polio and 5,000 others against measles. The Embassy worked together with the Cameroon Pediatric Association to set up a health clinic in the Gado Refugee Camp, located near Garoua Boulai in eastern Cameroon.

Israeli High School Students Launch Nanosatellite to Aid Lost Travelers

June 24, 2014 On Thursday, a tiny satellite designed by Israeli high school students to locate lost travelers was launched from Russia. Duchifat 1 (Hebrew for "hoopoe," the national bird of Israel), is Israel's first nano-satellite, weighing only 840 grams (1.9 lbs). Nearly 200 young designers and developers at the Herzliya Science Centre built the miniscule device that will travel its 90-minute orbit around Earth listening for the calls of lost travelers with no cell phone reception on land or at sea.

Mobile Safety Net Increases Security for Diabetics

June 20, 2014 The Israeli-developed application HelpAround has made help for diabetes patients just a click away on the smartphone. The mobile crowdsourcing application allows diabetics to find someone nearby that has a glucose tablet, meter, dose of insulin or advice to share when the need arises. “Diabetics often find themselves in dangerous, scary, or unpredictable situations and running back home is not always an option,” said HelpAround CEO Yishai Knobel, who is a former mobile health executive for diabetes tech giant AgaMatrix.

Israel and EU Sign Scientific Cooperation Agreement

June 11, 2014 On Sunday Israel and the European Union signed the Horizon 2020 agreement that gives Israel access to the EU’s largest ever research and development program. The agreement allows Israel to participate and benefit the same as any other member state. Israel, the first and only non-member state to have access to the fund, devotes 4 % of its GDP to research and development in the fields of science, medicine, technology and the environment. It has been working with the EU since 1996, but the present agreement will allow for a more active involvement.

New Israeli Device Helps People Better Understand the Physical World

June 4, 2014 Aviv’s Consumer Physics Inc. has created a device called SCiO that will give ordinary people insight into the physical world in which we live. The device uses Near Infra-Red Spectroscopy to provide instant information about the chemical make-up of just about anything and sends it directly to the user’s smartphone. The device works by shining a light onto the surface of the object, which reflects back onto the device sensor along with the object’s molecules, creating a unique molecular optical signature for that object.
